Home Energy Rating Scores

Kinightic Corporation can provide certified energy ratings for real estate transactions
and energy efficient mortgages.
When listing a home for sale on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in Northern Illinois, there is now a field available to enter an energy efficiency rating, known as a Home Energy Rating Score (HERS). This HERS rating provides a number score between 1 and 500, with 100 being the score for a “reference” home, of the same size and shape as the tested home, and constructed to accepted building standards. The HERS rating is based on percentage of energy usage, allowing for comparisons. For instance, if Home 1 is 1800 square feet with a HERS rating of 80, while Home 2 is also 1800 square feet home with a HERS rating of 100, Home 1 uses 20% less energy than Home 2 (100 – 80 = 20).
Many mortgage lenders also offer energy efficient mortgages.
